Oil drain plug is some sort of screw which consists of plastic or metal. It posseses an important function while changing the oil. It has a sealing ring which supports to seal opening of a drain. This opening must drain the old waste oil during oil changing before new oil is refilled. It is located at lower side of oil pan as a result of which oil may be completely drained out by aftereffect of gravity. In this way the oil pan gets fully empty. It can help in smooth functioning of vehicle engine as well by removing wasted oil. Otherwise it may affect efficiency and working of a vehicle. oil drain plug is just a small but important part for any vehicle.
Now discuss how it works, in order to drain out the fluid simply eliminate the oil drain plug from the tank and allow fluid to operate from the vehicle. It could be removed with wrench. After draining oil engine should run for quite a while so that the remaining water in exhaust system of the car also drain out. After oil change the washer and plug should be properly reinstalled otherwise it is required to replace it. Normally there is no need to replace it after each and every oil change. It is more affordable to displace the seal of oil drain plug after oil change as opposed to removing the entire part.
The seal of oil drain plug is damaged because of friction which results in leakage of oil or residual fluid. It may damage the vehicle engine badly. The seal is just a thin part made from aluminum; it can be reused after proper cleaning without tightening it more. A lot of tightening also can break or damage the seal again causing oil leakage. So, careful working can reduce extra cost and gives more life to engine of the vehicle.
